L.R.C.
The LRC (Learning Resource Center) provides various support services for all currently enrolled LRC students at all levels. Our primary goals are to help students from all ELC programs to develop and improve their communication and study skills to enable them to become more efficient and independent learners. To achieve these goals, the LRC offers individualized or small group tutoring sessions, workshops, as well as on-line assistance for:
· revising course materials and class assignments.
· study skills and strategies for test taking, note taking, time management, etc.
· improving writing skills.
· conversation and presentation practice.
These customized services are organized to meet the students’ needs to enable them to excel in their studies.
Appointments:
Appointments can be made in person or on-line. ELC students, who are referred by their instructors, will need to complete their specified number of tutoring hours. Their tutoring sessions can be organized to suit their schedules. ELC students, who want to get LRC services, can request appointments in their free time. However, if an ELC student fails to attend three scheduled sessions, the student will not qualify for any LRC appointments for onsite or on-line help.
Guidelines for Faculty Referrals:
ELC faculty will be assigned tutoring duties during the ELC academic year. They may also recommend proficient students to become LRC peer tutors. If ELC students do not meet course standards, those students should be referred to the LRC for tutoring. Faculty will need to complete the LRC Referral form and provide specific details about which services they are recommending for their students. The LRC services are also available to students who would like to improve their skills. Its services are not limited to ELC students who lack good study skill habits.
